How this website was designed

I designed this website with a clear focus on simplicity, calm, and direct bookings, reflecting the peaceful woodland setting of Gamekeepers Cottage.

The structure of the site was planned to guide visitors naturally from first impression to booking, with clear calls-to-action and minimal distractions. The homepage introduces the cottage and its surroundings immediately, using large imagery and short, reassuring copy to create an emotional connection with potential guests.

Special attention was given to:

Mobile-first design, ensuring the site works seamlessly across phones, tablets, and desktops
Clear navigation, so visitors can quickly find accommodation details, galleries, reviews, and local attractions
Fast loading performance, optimising images and layout for speed and reliability
Direct booking focus, reducing reliance on third-party platforms and encouraging guests to book directly

I also structured the content to support search engine visibility, organising headings, page flow, and local information to help the cottage be discovered by guests searching for holidays near Southwold and the Suffolk coast.

The overall design balances practical information with atmosphere, helping guests imagine their stay while giving them confidence and clarity when booking.

About the Client

Nick has had Gamekeeper’s Cottage in his family since he was a young boy, so it holds a special place in his heart. It is a lovely cottage which Nick looks after really well. It was a joy to work with Nick and his wife, Lesely, on this project.

The Goal

We wanted to update his current site, which was old, non responsive and didn’t portray the cottage as well as it could. We also visited the property and took new photo’s which we used on the website.
